The Ted Rogers Scholarship Fund awards students for their community involvement, which is critical during times like this. Basically, since its launch in 2017, the fund has awarded 150 students with $2,500 dollars each academic year to encourage acts of kindness and community building.

In other words, if you’re anything like Michael Scott, and your only flaws are that you sing in the shower and spend too much time volunteering, you should keep reading. This scholarship could be for you!

Here’s everything you need to know about the Ted Rogers Scholarship Fund:

Why was The Ted Rogers Scholarship Fund Created?

The Ted Rogers Scholarship Fund was created to empower students through education, and encourage acts of leadership and volunteerism.

“I can think of few things worse than good minds not developing to their full potential because of economic reasons. Education can remake a city, a province or a country and can produce a growing middle class in only one generation.” – Ted Rogers

Who is eligible?

  • Canadian citizens or permanent residents
  • Entering a full-time bachelors, diploma, or trades program at a Canadian university, college or trades school.

When is the application deadline?

The 2019 recipients of the Ted Rogers Scholarship fund have already been selected by the Fund’s Community Partners. More information is to come regarding our Class of 2020 application process.

What does the evaluation process look like?

Traditionally, partners of the Ted Rogers Scholarship Fund help identify deserving candidates across Canada. Typically, the evaluators make their selections based on students’ ability to demonstrate a high standard of team leadership while volunteering and giving back to the community. There will also be an application form where students can shed light on their initiatives, but more information has yet to come regarding the 2020 application.

Why is this year particularly important for the Ted Rogers Scholarship Program?

Things are changing, and we can’t get through it alone. Now more than ever, there is a global emphasis on community building as people around the world understand the things we once took for granted are delicately interconnected. Our financial freedom depends on the economy, and the economy depends on our financial freedom. Basically, our freedom to live the lives we choose depends on how our society as a whole can navigate unprecedented circumstances, especially when it comes to health care.

If there’s anything we’ve learned recently, it’s that the coronavirus doesn’t pick from left to right or top to bottom. We’re all in this together. And, the more we can support each other through the tough times, the stronger we’ll grow as a whole.

So, now is an important time to give back, take leadership, and support the people around you. Whether that’s volunteering with the Jays Foundation, the YMCA or Big Brothers and Sisters of Canada. Maybe it’s supporting local businesses to help them stay afloat, or showing some extra love to frontline workers and healthcare providers. Whatever it is, supporting others during these times comes with major rewards outside of just the available scholarships. But, I mean, $2,500 a year wouldn’t hurt either!
