The Ontario Native Education Counselling Association (ONECA) is pleased to offer 2 annual scholarships at the Post Secondary level.

A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to an Indigenous college student and an Indigenous
university student, who have successfully completed their first year in a full-time program in a field
of study that has a counselling component.

How to Apply

  • Full-time Post Secondary student of aboriginal ancestry in their second year of their field of study
  • Must have successfully completed their first year in a program that has a counselling component at an Ontario Post-Secondary Institution
  • 75% overall average in first year
  • Proceeding into the second year or graduate year of the same program
  • Involvement in the community and/or school extra-curricular activities
  • Recommended by Education Counsellor or a Teacher
  • Leadership qualities, dedication and good attendance

Application forms are available from a First Nation Education office, and Education Counsellor or
from the ONECA office at (705) 692-2999.

Applicants must also submit:

  • Copy of letter of acceptance into second year of the program
  • Proof of Ancestry
  • Letter of recommendation from school, First Nation, or Education Counsellor
  • Copy of final marks for 1st year of the program
  • Copies of awards, diplomas, or other supporting documents
  • 500 word essay outlining why you have chosen this career path

All applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee of the Ontario Native Education
Counselling Association.

Applications must be submitted by June 30th at 4:00pm. Final grades must be received by July 31.
