The Municipal Retirees Organization Ontario annual Scholarship Program awards a number of $3,000 scholarships, as well as the prestigious $5,000 Don MacLeod Memorial Award for Leadership to students at a Canadian university, community college or similar post-secondary institution entering their second year of study with a full course load (full-time student). These MROO scholarships represent the importance MROO places on education and investing in the next generation.

To apply for a MROO scholarship, students must:
- Have a relative (parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, great aunt, or great uncle, including step relatives) who is a MROO member or surviving spouse of a MROO member
- Be entering the second year of a first degree or diploma program at a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution and be a full-time student (full course load)
- Be enrolled in a full-time program
- Have a home address in Canada
To apply applicants must submit:
- Completed application form
- Proof of successful completion of a full course load in the first year (typically a transcript of first-year marks)
- Proof of acceptance into the second year (typically a letter from Registrar or proof of payment of fees for the second year)
- A one-to-two-page resume outlining the following: employment, volunteer roles, and leadership positions (you must use the template provided)
- A 200-300-word essay outlining your vision of your future leadership roles and service to others, and how your post-secondary studies will assist you in realizing your goals
MROO’s Scholarship Committee is looking for applicants who have:
- Experience in leadership positions
- A commitment to volunteer service and helping others
- A clear vision of how they will make a difference in their community and the world
The application deadline is Friday, September 5 at 5PM (ET). Award recipients will be notified in October by email.
