Thanks to a generous donation from CIBC Foundation, more survivors of childhood cancer will be able to pursue their post-secondary education dreams through Childhood Cancer Canada. To date, more than 2,000 survivors have been awarded a Survivor Scholarship for post-secondary education—that’s more than $2.6 million in scholarships since 2000.

Successful student applicants will receive a one-time grant of up to $5,000 to support their post-secondary expenses.

The Childhood Cancer Canada Scholarship Program is open to young adult cancer survivors. Survivor Scholarships recognize the personal triumphs of students who have survived childhood cancer and support their post-secondary academic aspirations.

How to Apply

You are eligible to apply if you:

  • Are a childhood cancer survivor;
  • Are a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status;
  • Are expecting to receive a high school diploma following the current academic year; and
  • Are planning to pursue a degree at an accredited Canadian or United States post-secondary institution.

To apply, complete the application form and submit:

  • A photo of yourself
  • Statement from your Oncologist or current family doctor
  • SIN number
  • Personal statement (max 500 words) that highlights your personal cancer journey, desired educational path, and career plans. Please also include any challenges you have faced financially and how this scholarship will impact you and your family. Do not include experiences or skills that aren’t relevant to the application.

On average, Childhood Cancer Canada receives 160 applications annually. Applications are reviewed from May to July, and successful applicants are notified in August. Scholarships are awarded in early October following the receipt of the student’s enrollment confirmation.

Applications are due 11:59 p.m. April 30th.

You are ineligible to receive a scholarship if you are a temporary resident, international or part-time student.
