The demand for skilled tradespeople is on a significant rise across Canada. The vision for the new Beedie Luminaries trades scholarship program is to create a pathway for aspiring students to begin their journey toward a rewarding career in the skilled trades to address the critical skills gap in B.C.’s growing economy.
The 2024/25 pilot will focus on supporting up to 25 students entering BCIT to pursue the nationally designated certification programs (under the Interprovincial Standards Red Seal Program) in the following construction trades roles that are among the top in-demand in BC:
- Carpenters
- Electricians (construction)
- Plumbers
- Welders
- Sheet Metal Workers

To be eligible, an applicant must:
- Satisfy the institution’s entrance requirements for the trade program.
- Demonstrate financial need.
- Be born after January 1, 1990.
- Be a full-time BC resident, residing in BC for the previous 6 consecutive months.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a refugee who was granted permanent residency or a protected person under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) after January 1, 2016. (Convention refugees/protected persons to Canada may require a study permit.)
