There’s a surprising amount of financial support for Canadian students studying all over the world. All you have to do is find the right international scholarships based on where you’re studying. If you, or someone you know, is preparing to study abroad, make sure you check to see if there are any additional funds available to you first.

Saltire Scholarships (Scotland)

Scotland is a gorgeous country to explore, packed with top schools like the University of St. Andrews, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, and many more. These scholarships, valued at £8,000 are intended to entice students to explore the country’s history of academic excellence and reward students from Canada, China, India, Japan, Pakistan, and USA. This scholarship will also offer additional experiential opportunities beyond the money.

DAAD Scholarships (Germany)

RISE (Research Internship in Science and Engineering) offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate scholarships and summer research internships. These awards are for Master’s and PhD students from North America studying biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, engineering, or a closely-related field in Germany. The amount of the scholarship increases by a minimum €500/month (roughly $750/month) stipend on top of any scholarship amount received from DAAD.

UNICAF Scholarship Programme (United Kingdom, USA, Africa)

With current partners schools in the UK, USA, and Africa, nationals from any country can prepare for the future with UNICAF. Their generous scholarships allow you to earn your degree online from internationally-recognized schools at a fraction of the cost. CBIE International Scholarships Program (Many Countries)

Funded by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada, this program helps increase student mobility. In exchange, it promotes Canadian schools as study destinations for students from other countries. Administered through the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), this program has 14 different scholarship components. These scholarships offer Canadian students, researchers, and professionals the ability to work and study abroad.

The Global Study Awards (Many Countries)

Through a partnership between Studyportals, ISIC and British Council, twice a year, they’re offering two international students awards for a value of up to £10,000. This award is meant to encourage young people to explore the world and reward students dedicated to expanding their intercultural understanding and bettering society.

Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program (China)

Thanks to Global Affairs Canada and the Chinese Ministry of Education, these short-term scholarships are available to Canadians wanting to study in China. Participating Chinese institutions offer awards for studies, research, language studies or a combination of subjects. Students, mid-career professionals, and even faculty members or research staff can apply.

Chevening Scholarship (United Kingdom)

Outstanding professionals pursuing a Master’s degree can still apply for this award up until November 3, 2020. The UK government’s global scholarship program, Chevening, encourages the study of any subject at any university in the UK. These fully-funded scholarships cover everything from tuition to travel, leaving your o focus solely on your studies and experience. The year-long opportunity to live and learn in the UK is perfect for students with ambition and an academic background.
