The Annual Women In Defense and Security Scholarship Fund was established in 2006 with a mandate to encourage women to further their educational objectives and pursue careers related to Canada’s defence and/or security. Since 2006, over $100,000 has been awarded in amounts ranging from $1,000-$10,000.
Established in 2006, the WiDS Scholarship fund awards up to $10,000 annually to outstanding women who are pursuing careers related to Canada’s defence and security. Two $10,000 scholarships will be awarded.

- Must be enrolled at an accredited Canadian university or college, either full-time or part-time in the school year 2026-2027 (in the case of university students both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible, however undergraduates must have completed at least 1 year of study)
- Demonstrate interest in pursuing a career related to Canada’s defence or security
- Have a minimum grade point average of 70%
- Provide evidence of community, education or professional leadership
- Self-identify as a woman
- Be a citizen of Canada
Applicants will need to submit:
- Letters of recommendation (at least one from a faculty member at current institution)
- Employment history
- Volunteer history
- Unofficial transcripts (official transcripts will be required if awarded)
- Demonstration of leadership capability (max. 250 words)
- Demonstration of interest in a career in defence and security (max. 250 words)
Awards will be based on academic achievement, participation and interest in defence and security activities, field of study, work experience, statements of objectives, and recommendations.
