Cleanliness isn’t just personal—it’s public and collective. It shapes health outcomes, workplace safety, air quality, productivity, and even how communities are perceived. Yet industrial and environmental sanitation rarely get serious attention in schools or policy debates.

This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one Canadian or US student based on the quality of an essay on one of five topics provided by ShenShine.

How to Apply

  • Students residing in Canada or the USA
  • Currently in high school, college, or grad school
  • Already enrolled or officially accepted at an accredited institution
  • No restriction on field of study (public health, business, sociology, architecture, or any major)
  • No minimum GPA, no age limit, and no citizenship requirement (as long as you live in the U.S. or Canada)

Write one essay between 1,000–1,500 words on one of the topics below:

  1. Why Clean Spaces Are Public Health Infrastructure
  2. The Psychology of Cleanliness: How Sanitation Impacts Human Behavior
  3. What COVID-19 Taught Us About Cleaning Practices—And What We Forgot Too Soon
  4. Beyond the Broom: How Commercial Cleaning Affects Worker Safety and Business Trust
  5. Cleaning inside the Age of Climate Responsibility: Sustainable Solutions or Greenwashing?

Applicants will be chosen based on:

  • Strong connection to the chosen topic
  • Original perspective and genuine insight
  • Clear reasoning and logical flow
  • Relevance to real-world problems

One winner will be selected, notified by email, and announced on the ShenShine website on August 1.

Submissions must arrive by July 22, 11:59 PM EST.

Funds will be paid by check or e-transfer.
