The Adam Yeadon Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Northwest Territories NWT full-time post-secondary students enrolled in a diploma, degree or other approved training programs related to forestry or wildfire management to encourage northern students to pursue an education in these fields.

The Adam Yeadon Memorial Scholarship was established in 2024 after Adam’s passing in the line of duty during the 2023 wildfire season.

In Adam’s memory, two annual scholarships of $5,000 each are available on a competitive application basis.

How to Apply

Open to all post-secondary students or applicants from the Northwest Territories pursuing forestry or wildfire management related post-secondary programs, including both undergraduate and graduate programs, diplomas, certificates, and other relevant training programs.

To apply, send a letter of intent and documentation to support your application including the following:

  • Copy of official or unofficial transcripts from the previous academic year
  • Proof of Acceptance or Conditional Acceptance, which should state the forestry program you are enrolled in, start date, and program length
  • At least one Letter of Reference (i.e. from an instructor, employer, or other relevant organization)
  • Letter of intent (1-2 pages) that includes the following: Your name and information about yourself (i.e. where you grew up); Confirmation of NWT residency and status (Indigenous Aboriginal, Indigenous non-Aboriginal or other); your career plan and tentative timetable for completing the program; information on the program (this could include a brochure, a web link, or a print-out of a description of the program from the institution’s website); why you chose to pursue a career in forestry or wildfire management; how you expect this program to benefit you and your career goals; why you should be chosen as a recipient of this scholarship; any experience you have with forestry or wildfire through prior training, employment, or other activities (i.e. on-the-land experience).

An award selection committee will screen and independently review applications, score each component of the application using an evaluation rubric, and award the scholarship(s) to the highest scoring applicant(s).

Only successful recipients will be notified.

Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the successful applicant to offset education related costs.
