The Leonard Foundation is a financial assistance program for students enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in a Canadian university or affiliated college. Colonel Reuben Wells Leonard wanted this financial assistance to go to individuals who, without it, would not be able to obtain a degree. For that reason, a true financial need must be demonstrated. He also believed that the recipients of his awards should have qualities for leadership so that Canada could grow. Over the years, the amount available for the Financial Assistance Program has grown to approximately $130,000.00 annually. Approximately 100 awards are made annually. The value of the award is usually $1,000 – $1,500.

Those applicants who have permanently resided outside of the family home for an extended period will be required to supply detailed financial information. If you do not wish to divulge this information, the General Committee will not be able to make a reasoned decision.

The institutions must be open to all without restriction except for an academic standard. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.
