SGI’s vision is to achieve the safest roads in Canada—improving traffic safety plays a big role in that. This grant is available to graduate students whose proposed research involves engineering or human factor issues related to traffic safety.
This grant intends to:
- Support the development of ideas that could help address traffic safety issues in Saskatchewan.
- Develop expertise and interest in graduate students in the area of road safety.
- Use the University of Regina’s expertise to broaden the scope of SGI’s traffic safety research.

- Propose research that involves engineering or human factors issues related to traffic safety.
- Be accepted as a fully qualified graduate student at the University of Regina.
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 80%.
- Be registered full-time (minimum 6 credit hours) in the semester the award is given.
- If continuing students, be in good standing and have demonstrated satisfactory achievement in course work as well as appropriate progress toward the completion of the research requirement.
- Applications for the award are available on the University of Regina website.
- Applicants should include a research proposal along with an outline of their relevant experience related to their project.
- Applications must also be supported by a confidential letter of reference from the student’s supervising faculty member.
The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research Scholarship Committee will review applications, select a recipient and notify them by November 30.
SGI doesn’t guarantee employment for award recipients; however, we may give the recipients preferential consideration for employment following the completion of their studies or for summer student/co-op opportunities.
