ATCO supports First Nation, Métis and Inuit students across Canada in their quest for higher education. There are three awards available for high school, diploma, degree and upgrading or university prep students. Apply today.
There are three different awards available:
- Merit Awards ($750) – for students completing Grades 10 – 12
- Bridging Awards ($1,000) – for students registered in an upgrading program (Adult Basic Education) or University Preparation program
- Scholarship ($1,800) – for students enrolled in degree or graduate programs

You can apply for the Indigenous Education Awards if you:
- Self-identify as Indigenous in Canada (First Nations, Inuit, or Métis);
- Are enrolled full-time in junior/senior high school (including upgrading) or an accredited post-secondary institution or training/certificate program;
- Are not a child of an ATCO employee.
To apply, complete the application form, and submit the following required documentation:
- Proof of enrolment for upcoming school semester
- Transcript from most recent completed year
- Reference letter*
- Proof of Indigenous identity (i.e. Status Card, Métis Card, Inuvialuit Beneficiary Card. For Non-status applicants, a letter from your current community official (i.e. President, Executive Director or Membership Registrar) is required.
*Reference Letter:
- Merit Awards – Attach one reference letter from a current teacher
- For First Nation, Métis or Inuit students applying for a Bursary, Scholarship or Bridging Award – A Reference Letter from a current academic professional (i.e. teacher/instructor) and current Community Elected officials, Education Directors, Band Administrator or Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, Enrolment Office.
- For Non-status students applying for a Bursary, Scholarship or Bridging Award – A Reference Letter (from current academic professional (i.e. teacher), and current community official such as President, Executive Director or Membership Registrar.
There is a maximum of one award per applicant per year. Students must re-apply each year if they wish to be considered.
