Are you up for the My Money My Future challenge? Create a new resource to help make cents of money, and you could win up to $10,000!

Are you a high-school student looking for a way to earn some extra cash? We’ve got just the thing.

Our friends over at CIBC and The Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE) are challenging YOU to create a new financial resource to help other students build a healthy relationship with money.

The best part? Your creativity could win you up to $10,000 towards future education or training!

What types of resources can I submit?

Here are some format options to consider:

  • Video
  • Podcast
  • Play/Script
  • Booklet
  • PowerPoint
  • Animation
  • Song/Lyrics
  • Visual Arts
  • Advertisement
  • Poem
  • Website
  • Video Game

These are just some of the ways you could showcase your idea in a creative way! But, if you have an idea that isn’t on this list, feel free to try it out.

How do I enter the My Money My Future challenge?

Your teacher can register your class on the program’s web page by March 15, 2021. Then, you can individually or in groups of up to four create and submit a resource through your teacher! NOTE: If you are between the ages of 14-18 on April 16, 2021, you may be eligible for this competition.

How are the winners selected?

Basically, your teacher will determine your classroom’s top project based on their own criteria. Then, they can submit that project through the My Money My Future program website by April 16, 2021, to move forward in the Regional round of judging. Your teacher can also select three honorable mentions.

Regional round of judging:

Regional panels of judges will evaluate the top projects submitted by teachers, as well as any independent projects submitted directly by youth. [N.B. Information on Independent Registration is on the MMMF website]. Once judges determine the top projects from each Canadian province and territory (plus one wildcard from all), the selected students will move forward to participate in a National Showcase. Regional Judging Panels will make their decisions by May 14th, 2021.

National Showcase Challenge:

Regional winners will create a live virtual 3 minute presentation providing more insights on their project. The presentation should talk about the origin of the idea, the learning opportunities, why the topic is important for youth, etc. Students will then present their projects to a national panel of judges, which could include senior officials from government, education and business, as well as representatives from youth groups, and the NGO community. The virtual National Showcase Challenge will be open for viewing to all Canadians in early June, 2021.

What could I win?

  • 1st Prize: $10,000 towards future education or training – either to the winning individual or shared equally among team members
  • 2nd Prize: $5,000 towards future education or training – either to the 2nd place individual or shared equally among team members
  • 3rd Prize: $2,500 towards future education or training – either to the 3rd place individual or shared equally among team members

What else do I need to know?

  • Your work must be original! While you can use other sources for inspiration and research, CFEE reserves the right to disqualify an entry at any time if there is evidence of plagiarism, copyright infringement, etc.
  • You must submit your work in English or French!
  • Your entry and presentation (if you’re a finalist) could be posted publicly and shared widely!
