EDC International Business Scholarships

As part of our Youth Education Program, EDC provides up to 20 scholarships a year to international business post-secondary students at Canadian universities and colleges, and 7 scholarships to post-secondary students representing the next generation of community champions from a diversity of backgrounds.

How to Apply

To qualify for this scholarship you must:

  • Be pursuing post-secondary studies (college or undergraduate) at a Canadian college, university, or cégep for the upcoming academic year in a field related to EDC’s work, including one of the following:
    • Business and finance (international business, economics, sustainability, statistics, finance, investments, mathematics)
    • Operations and administration (operations, commerce, human resources, accounting, communications, project management, information management, data analytics, digital design, graphic design, legal)
    • Information technology (computer science, software engineering/development, network engineering, business analysis, data analytics, cybersecurity)
  • Have a strong academic standing (minimum 70% cumulative average).
  • Display passion for international business.
  • If you’ve studied or had work experience outside of Canada, that’s an asset.

Please note: EDC employees and their dependents are not eligible.

Apply online. Applications must include:

  • Personal statement/letter of intent (written response of maximum 1000 words or 3-5 minute video/voice clip) – submit a written or video personal introduction to tell us more about yourself, the studies you’re pursuing, your goals and aspirations, your passion for your career, and how receiving this funding would benefit you.
  • Transcripts – your official transcripts from your most recent academic term, including the grading system specific to your school.
  • Your resume or portfolio – include your resume or portfolio (1-3 samples), highlighting any experience abroad (work, study, internship) as well as any professional experience, volunteer work, extracurricular activities or memberships that show your interest for international business.
  • Reference letter (maximum 1 page) – a signed reference letter from either a professor or instructor at your current educational institution, your employer, mentor/coach, or individual who is not related to you and is familiar with your community involvement, volunteer, or extracurricular activities. Individual providing reference must declare their relationship to the applicant and include contact information.

Scholarships are awarded in the spring, and issued in the fall at the start of each academic year.

Our selection committee will evaluate your scholarship application based on your:

  • demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in a field related to EDC’s work
  • clear expression of how the scholarship will help you pursue field of study
  • level of academic achievement (as reflected in your transcripts or honours)
  • demonstration of financial need and how the scholarship will help
  • experience in Canada and abroad (including work, internships, volunteering and study exchanges) during the current degree program
  • leadership potential (as reflected in extracurricular activities)
  • letters of reference
  • language skills
  • Must be able to provide your SIN (Social Insurance Number) for tax purposes.
  •  Scholarships are awarded in the spring, and issued in the fall at the start of each academic year.
  • Students cannot receive an EDC scholarship more than once.
  • A student can only apply to -and be considered- for one scholarship in a given year.
